The project has two objectives: that are closely interconnected.


The first one is mainly technological, namely to develop a new generation of neuro-implantable devices based on nanoscience to generate functional bridges to re-establish electrical signaling when lost. Within this objective there is the analysis of the properties and the impact of functionalized nanosubstrates on neurons and on the function of the network to which single cells belong.

The second important objective of the project, is to use this technological development to gain insights into the functioning of neuron/electrical interfaces relevant for the development of novel implantable devices. Therefore, the outcome of the project will have a major impact on health at the level of technological improvement that could be exploited for many different disease contexts.
